POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH CANDIDATE AWARDS Most RMIT Architecture postgraduate research candidates are undertaking project-based design research. Key projects undertaken as design research case-studies by postgraduate candidates have subsequently received recognition through awards. These include:  RMIT ARCHITECTURE PHD SHORTLISTED FOR RIBA PHD RESEARCH AWARD Pia Ednire-Brown, RMIT Architecture Senior Lecturer "The Aesthetics of Emergence" PhD in Architecture, RMIT Architecture, 2007 Supervisors: Leon van Shaik and Peter Downton Shortlisted Finalist: RIBA President's Awards for Research: PhD Award, 2008 All entries were assessed in terms of how they contribute new knowledge and understanding to architecture, in terms of originality, significance and rigour. The winning pieces must be regarded as an exceptional contribution to architectural knowledge.
